The Impact of Pancreatic Tumors: A Family’s Experience

Looking out of the North End of the Tunnel

Jay’s Journey Part 1

As I began writing this post my whole thought pattern changed. Engaging and wading through all the emotions of grief really never seems to go away. When you watch loved one pass away is really hard. It just sticks into your mind, doesn’t it? You see those images quite often in your mind and it is hard. Dying is not always as it is shown on TV. More often than not , it is a very ugly time filled with pain that is hard to watch.

Our story began in May of 2024. We had picked up Jay for the weekend. We met our daughter and family for a usual Friday lunch. When we arrived she stated that Jay looked jaundice. His mom and I hadn’t noticed. When we took him back to Boswell after the weekend we asked them to take him to the Dr. They did and we weren’t able to get any help from them about test results. Being completely irritated we went back and brought him home and took him to Baptist Hospital ER. They ran a multitude of test and discovered his bilirubin was sky high (17 when it should have been 1). They did a CT scan and that is when our serious journey began.

The scan showed a small tumor on the head of his pancreas. About the size of a quarter. Well, we were floored. This was not expected at all. The tumor was putting pressure on the bile duct coming from the liver and that needed a stint. So, it was put in and we saw immediate results. as the bilirubin stating coming down. It was explained that they couldn’t do a biopsy there so we were sent to one of three Dr’s in Jackson that could do it. We met with him and the special endoscopy was done. Now we wait for test results.
